Tsubame
Tsubame is a half-oni warrior dancer from a Naluund that was ruled by a strict theocratic rule. She is by far the most chaotic among the Awoken, taking glee in the chaos wrought by the Awakening Wars and hiding her true goals to all but her most trusted companions. She is bound to Uzume.
Tsubame's role in the story changes depending on the player's actions in the following way:
- Somnia Route: Tsubame opposes The Protagonist and her wish to bring forth a just rule vehemently, positing that no true justice can ever be found under a God-King. She performs Hubris and faces her and Tanith as the Infinite Flow.
- Incubia Route: Tsubame is the main supporting character during the Incubia Route, supporting The Protagonist in her view of creating a truly free world: alongside her she strikes down Tanith, reduced to Model T, and the two live together in the new world, free of gods or laws.
- Vera Oniria Route: despite understanding The Protagonist's aims to bring forth a new world, she struggles throughout the game to truly trust her way completely. In the end she is ultimately unable to, and tries to face her friends as the Infinite Flow, but is struck down by Omar. In the game's finale she rescues The Protagonist from the depths of the Sea of Ink alongside The Virtuoso. During the New World ending she can be spotted among the people in the classroom, staring curiously at The One Remade.
- Bloodbath Route: she falls victim to the Protagonist's rampage without a fight.

Character
Tsubame's first impression is that of an energetic tomboy, ready to provide quick-witted responses and honest advice to any that come across her (regardless of them asking for it or not) and always ready to put herself into danger for the benefit of others.
Were one to spend more time with her, however, some cracks in her facade would quickly start to show, revealing the scared child that still lingers within her.
She was born of a violent relationship between a Kijo and a kidnapped Official of the Divine Corpse: after her birth, her father managed to slay the mother of his child and flee from their congregation, returning to the temple grounds where she was then raised as an orphan.
Despite her father's best efforts, her upbringing was rough and dogmatic: her indoctrination into the religion's beliefs started as soon as she could hold a pen, and grueling physical work and training went along with it: her unique body and mind allowed her to withstand more punishment than most, but this only meant the masters felt they didn't need to hold back with her.
Despite this, she forced herself to be the holiest among all of the kids that the orphanage had taken in; and sure enough, despite the biggest effort from those who would try and sabotage her, she was undeniably a perfect scion of the Divine Corpse; preventing her from rising within the organization's ranks was simply not a possibility.
She rose and rose, becoming the very incarnation of everything the cult stood for, up until she was the youngest candidate for head of the organization Naluund had ever seen; this is when, due to sheer coincidence, she discovered the truth of her own birth and truly met her own father.
The Cult of the Divine corpse preached, among their countless dogmas, integrity of body and mind above all; as such, any child born of violence was discarded, thought to be impure and undeserving of love by definition.
Although almost anyone else in her situation would have seen the hypocrisy within those teachings (or even moved to repel them once they had obtained the power they were so obviously worthy of), Tsubame was far too pure and honest for any of these thoughts to even cross her mind.
And thus, she shattered. Her worldview, every single piece of her very self, was so irreparably and obviously... Wrong. So wrong.
She tried to stop her brain from thinking, but she was far too smart for her own good. She knew her religion by heart, every dogma, every ritual, every contingency and rule; once the first crack was introduced, the damage spread in an instant.
Every waking and sleeping moment, for weeks, she pieced together every single fallacy, all on her own. She discovered the true nature of the world, of the Ink the cult had all but made a myth. Now, all she had to do, was piece herself back.
By this point, she had wandered off in the wilds. She couldn't remember how or why she got there, just that she was now. And so, she decided once and for all to truly test her mettle and reach within the horrible expanse she had spent her whole life fighting.
A voice answered. Her hand was clawed and thick, like her own, but moved with an ineffable grace: her face was weathered, but a beaming smile highlighted her otherworldly beauty.
"Another like me finally came to be", she smiled, and Tsubame felt kinship for the first time.
"Come now, child", the figure continued as reality warped around her, grabbing Tsubame's outstretched hand, "there is much to be done and much to be taught."
"I shall teach you how to truly Dance, so that the world may gaze upon us."
