The Shifting Mounds

The Shifting Mounds are an area that lies at the northeast of the peninsula, and what is considered the start of “Naluund proper”, as the lands farther north around the border have historically been inhospitable to humans.

Most of the land here is good and fit for agriculture and construction, and combined with its mellow climate and safety, provided by the Siblinghood’s closeness, it has been regarded across the ages as a slow, peaceful stepping stone for would-be adventurers, travelers and merchants.

Most of this area is covered by its namesakes, the Shifting Mounds; enchanted hills that throughout the night slowly move and shuffle around, bringing everyone on them along for the ride.

Originally conceived as an additional level of protection for the Citadel, and only the Citadel, it is unknown whether the expansion of the spell was accidental, intentional or malicious: whatever the case, reverting it has been squarely in the “why bother” folder of the scientific community for several centuries, and most researchers who took a stab at it anyway concluded it was there to stay.

While the Mounds never break apart homes, towns or even larger cities, they are known to make travel unpredictable, as the relations between them and the land between cannot be trusted: sleeping in the wilderness can be especially bad, as the shifting effect seems to be much more powerful the less people are around to witness it.

This area has deep ties to the Siblinghood, housing the very Citadel, to the point where you’d be hard pressed to not find a member of it in most every settlement you come across.

Its style is straight out of high fantasy, think LOTR’s Shire, Generic First Area in Generic Fantasy Isekai, that kind of deal.
