The Onirics
While not quite a people nor a faction, they absolutely warrant discussion, and as such this section exists.
The Oniric Race (sometimes referred to as Oniria or Onirics) are the stand-out feature of the Oniric Plane, and dwell exclusively within it.
While they can be thought of as gods or souls they are properly defined as the incarnation of a thought or a concept, most commonly crystalized by a Material’s will throughout its life or in the moment of its death.
While this kind of Onirics are by far the most common, and seem to retain the memories of the people they manifest as, it’s extremely debated whether they actually carry on the original individual’s consciousness, just look and act like they do, or are something so far removed from what “a person” is that the whole discussion is moot.
Regardless, they usually take after a notable figure (most commonly a real person who lived, sometimes a beast or a fictional character), and their struggle for power within the Oniric Plane influences the thoughts and feelings of all living things, from the greatest poet to the mighty ruler to the rancid rat.
The highest breed of Onirics are the Primordial Gods, known by many as the Fated Twins and worshipped by ancient populations in the land of Obsidya; they exist somewhere between myth and legend, but in Naluund those hold more power than most men.
According to the mythos, immediately after Creation 6 Gods were born, each mighty as the last and bound by an unshakeable love for one another.
Their names were:
-
Simeon, Lord of Dreams
-
Samual, Lord of Nightmares
-
Eyra of the Frigid Flame
-
Lyra of the Everflow
-
Cronodia, Incubi’s First
-
Ego, Somnia’s First
As stated their grasp upon the world has long waned, with only Ego surviving as the one known True God of the land of Naluund: throughout their lives, however, they spawned what are now known as simply Gods, creatures whose veins burn white with power.
Some gods were born through love, other through battle and strife, but almost all were creatures both godly and material, who would have surely surpassed their creators if given the chance: these wondrous beings were known as the Empyreans.
The Massacre, however, tore them from their material bodies, and the shock had them regress to the form we can observe now; echoes of immense power that mindlessly contradict each other, and that need the intercession of mortals to even attempt to walk the Material Plane.
Humanoids can go through a potentially dangerous process called Awakening which, if successful, can bind them to a compatible Oniric and allow them both to experience the unity of the two Planes: with the Oniric’s assistance and guidance the Awoken can then materialize their thoughts in the Material World, leading to varied results according to the Oniric’s intercession. This processpower is referred to as EGO, to honour the first being who bridged the gap between the planes.planes, the god Ego himself.
While exceedingly rare, Gods can theoretically choose to link with one such awoken, although it historically has only brought deathdeath, madness or untold tragedy.
